Cavite police arrest unlicensed dentist with clinic in Imus

Police arrested a woman in Imus, Cavite after getting confirmation from the Professional Regulation Commission that the suspect, who was allegedly engaged in the practice of dentistry in the locality for more than 15 years, was unlicensed. The alleged “fake dentist" Evelyn Tapel Bernal was arrested in her clinic during the entrapment operation of Cavite’s Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Philippine Dental Association (PDA). GMA-7’s “Imbestigador ng Bayan" was there. According to Dr. Ferdinand Reyes, PDA vice chairman for legal affairs, this is the eighth case of illegal dentistry practice in Cavite. A complaint from a licensed dentist also based in Imus led to the arrest covered by the “Imbestigador ng Bayan" report shown Friday on “24 Oras." The complainant accused Bernal of luring patients away from legitimate dentists in the area by offering cheaper dental services.
But the suspect said, “Well, I’m a dentist [but] less theoretical." Cavite CIDG took the suspect to their police station where charges of violating Republic Act 9484, or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007 are being prepared against her. — RJMD/ELR, GMA News
