Deaths from recent typhoons now over 100


The deaths from Typhoons Pedring (Nesat) and Quiel (Nalgae) surpassed 100 early Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 6 a.m. updates, the NDRRMC also said the number of people affected by the two cyclones breached the four-million mark. According to the NDRRMC, the death toll from Pedring rose to 82, with 73 injured and 20 missing; while the death toll from Quiel rose to 19, with 12 injured and seven missing. The most recent deaths due to Pedring included:

    - Alfredo Gatchalian, 47, Bocaue, Bulacan (drowning) - Barreto Renzo, 15, Calumpit, Bulacan (drowning) - Mark Glenn Mamangon, 15, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan (drowning)
The most recent deaths from Quiel included:
    - Patlo Ringor, Camiling, Tarlac (drowning) - Jun Maratas, 47, Mariveles, Bataan (drowning) - Boyet, 33, Mariveles, Bataan (drowning)
Maratas and Boyet were among the crew of a fishing vessel, the NDRRMC noted. The NDRRMC said Pedring affected 651,627 families or 3,038,216 people in 3,472 villages in 310 towns and 42 cities in 35 provinces. Of these, 7,664 families or 31,908 people are being served in 98 evacuation centers. It added Quiel affected 220,216 families or 1,089,045 people in 1,720 villages in 135 towns and 10 cities in 17 provinces. Of these, 7,882 families or 35,982 people are being served in 74 evacuation centers. Damage to property The damage to property from Pedring was estimated at P13,800,739,509.57, including P1,966,256,882.81 in infrastructure and P11,834,482,626.76. At least 7,212 houses were destroyed while 46,075 were damaged. At least 27 road sections remained impassable are seven in Cagayan Valley; 11 in Central Luzon (11) and nine in Cordillera. — LBG, GMA News
