Palace adopts wait-and-see stance on class suit vs Napocor

Malacañang is taking a wait-and-see stance on a reported class suit being readied against the National Power Corp. for the floods that hit Bulacan province in late September. Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the Palace wants to see first the supposed evidence of the Bulacan provincial government in the class suit it is preparing. “We do not know what evidence the Bulacan provincial government has, so we will have to wait and see what the contents of their class suit will be," he said on government-run dzRB radio. Bulacan officials claimed to have uncovered evidence showing water released from Angat Dam caused massive flooding in several areas in the province. Earlier reports said the supposed evidence belies an earlier statement by Napocor, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) that water released from Angat Dam did not cause flooding in the four towns. The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Bulacan chapter is working on the class suit. But the NDRRMC had said the floods were caused by Typhoon Pedring (Nesat), which lashed Northern Luzon in late September. — LBG, GMA News
