Two Leyte beheading suspects fall in Metro Manila

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested in two separate areas in Metro Manila two of the most wanted persons in Leyte province, where the suspects allegedly beheaded a male victim. In a news release, the CIDG said its Detection and Special Operations Division (DSOD) arrested:

  • Rolando Lumacad, 46, a construction worker, and
  • Rolando Villanueva, alias Cojim, 48. Both natives of Sitio Naga, Barangay Tinag-an, Albuera, Leyte, the two were listed as most wanted persons for the murder of Armado Velarde, also of Sitio Naga in Leyte on September 4 this year. Police Senior Superintendent Alberto Ignatius Ferro, DSOD chief, said Velarde died of decapitation due to multiple hackings. CIDG operatives arrested Lumacad on October 5 at around 4:30 p.m. in his residence in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. Lumacad later hinted to the CIDG the whereabouts of suspect Villanueva who was arrested the following day in his hiding place in Barangay Mabuhay, Tondo, Manila. Ferro said the two went into hiding in Metro Manila after learning that murder charges were filed against them before the Leyte Regional Trial Court for the killing of Velarde. The CIDG said Villanueva, who had a previous quarrel with the victim, paid P8,000 to Lumacad and another suspect for the killing. Lumacad and Villanueva were arrested by virtue of two warrants of arrest issued by Judge Clinton Nuevo of RTC Baybay, Leyte. - VVP, GMA News
