'Ramon' brings floods, landslides to Visayas, Mindanao


Several families in the Visayas and Mindanao have been evacuated from their homes since Tuesday as Tropical Storm Ramon (Banyan) brought floods and landslides to the area. In its 6 a.m. Wednesday report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said flooding incidents were reported in:

  • Manaba River at Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol,
  • Barangays Igpit and Malanang, Opol, Misamis Oriental (knee-deep), and
  • Zones 1, 2, 2B, and 3, Brgy Amoros, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, Brgy. Igpot in Opol, Misamis Oriental, and in Cagayan de Oro cCity due to continuous rains (five houses were destroyed and 270 families evacuated) In Cebu, 11 families from San Francisco, Camotes Island sought shelter at the San Francisco Elementary school due to torrential rains. Landslide, more flooding Meanwhile, a landslide in Brgy. Pancho Villa, Sogod, Leyte rendered a road impassable, although there was no casualty or damage initially reported. Likewise, a separate report on radio dzBB Wednesday said residents in some coastal areas of Cebu, including flooded areas in Mandaue, were evacuated. Mandaue had placed several flood-hit villages under a state of calamity. The NDRRMC also reported the mini-hydro dam in Sevilla, Bohol released 40 percent of impounded water due to continuous rains. Residents of Barangays Bulua and Sitio Calacala in Barangay Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City prepared for possible evacuation as the water level in Cagayan de Oro River rose.
