MMDA: Updated Apple app under review, Android version next

Following a glitch that hounded its app this week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has submitted to Apple Inc. an updated version of its traffic app. MMDA traffic discipline office and communications group head Yves Gonzalez said a version of the app for Android devices is also in the works. "(The update) is pending review with Apple. I asked for an expedited review," he said in his Twitter account. He said he concentrated on new lines and bug fixes, and hinted that the features for service roads and incidents may come in the next update. When asked if a similar app will be made for users of phones and devices running Google's Android, he said that one is under development, "by a different developer". Earlier this week, the MMDA acknowledged a problem with its traffic app for Apple's iOS devices. In the meantime, the MMDA advised users to uninstall and reinstall the old version of app to get their live updates back. Several netizens had tweeted problems using the MMDA app, which was launched only last September. The app is initially available for iPhones and iPads. It is the first Philippine government agency mobile application, according to the MMDA. "It allows you to view Metro Manila's traffic situation in an easy to use and convenient app. The app also contains MMDA's FAQs for easy reference on the road. The full MMDA office directory is also included," it said in a description on Apple's App Store. The app initially includes Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), C-5, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Roxas Boulevard, España Avenue, and Quezon Avenue. It also allows users to "share or report traffic info via Twitter." — TJD, GMA News
