Pinoys in UAE send 200 kg of relief goods for PHL typhoon victims

Filipinos based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shipped some 200 kilograms of relief goods on Sunday for the victims of typhoons "Pedring" (international name: Nesat) and "Quiel" (Nalgae) in the Philippines. A report of the news site Khaleej Times said the relief supplies included towels and blankets, canned goods and instant food. The report quoted Filipino Association of Travel Agency (FATA) president Daisy Sarmiento as saying seven more boxes will be sent at a later date. One of the organizers of the relief work was Philippine Presidential Awardee 2010 Wafa Kasimieh, a bilingual senior religious advisor of the Dubai government's Edification and Religious Guidance Department, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. The Khaleej Times report said President Benigno Simeon Aquino III honored Kasimieh on December 14 last year as a "Banaag Awardee" for assisting distressed OFWs, advocating for their protection and improving their working environment. The report said the Filipino organizations that took part in the charity work were:

  • FATA
  • CADD Group under Dante Delizo
  • Overseas Filipino Civil Engineers Association (OFCEA) under Albert Swerte, and
  • Lambuanaonons in the UAE under Inocencio Legayada. Meanwhile, 7 Seas Marine Cargo and JRS Logistics transported for free on Sunday 100 kilos each from Dubai to the Philippines. - VVP, GMA News
