Only kinder classes in NCR are suspended, DepEd says

Citing state weather forecasters' advisory that "rains will slows down after 4 a.m." and only Storm Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Metro Manila because of tropical cyclone "Ramon", the Department of Education (DepEd) announced Thursday morning that only kindergarten classes are suspended in the National Capital Region. However, the DepED, also through its official Twitter account, said that "localized suspensions may be announced by local DepEd and local government units' (LGU) officials." "Sa Metro Manila ... preschool level suspendido ang klase pero ang elementary at secondary may klase," DepEd regional director Elena Ruiz said in an interview on dzBB radio. She said school officials have the discretion to suspend classes if their areas are experiencing heavy rain or floods. But so far, she said her initial coordination with them shows no school has reported the need to suspend classes. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration raised Storm Signal No. 1 over these areas: - Marinduque - Mindoro Provinces - Lubang Island - Romblon - Southern Quezon - Northern Palawan - Calamian Group of Islands - Cavite - Laguna - Batangas - Bataan - Southern Zambales - Metro Manila — ELR, GMA News
