NDRRMC: 7 killed, 2 missing due to 'Ramon'


Seven were killed and two were reported missing due to tropical depression "Ramon" (international name: Banyan) on Thursday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its 5:00 a.m. update on Thursday, the NDRRMC said bad weather conditions also left some 9,856 passengers stranded in the areas affected by the cyclone. The seven fatalities included:

  • Michael Martinez, 15, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo (drowning)
  • Mark Martinez, 15, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo (drowning)
  • Marielle Martinez, 7, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo (drowning)
  • Lino Ganancial, 7, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo (drowning)
  • Bienvenido Cañete, 54, Cordova, Cebu (electrocuted)
  • Wilfredo Sabroso, 30, Toledo City, Cebu (fell off collapsed footbridge due to heavy rain and strong winds)
  • Daryll Galles, 20, Sta. Cruz, Brgy. de Manila, Butuan City (buried alive in landslide) The two persons reported missing were:
  • Jaime Cagumbay, 36, Jagna, Bohol (missing since Oct. 11, drowned while crossing river near Canauhay Dam), and
  • Lyka Elosendo, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo (swept by strong current). The NDRRMC said "Ramon" affected 5,606 families (or 23,585 people) in 91 villages in 16 towns and seven cities in Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Capiz, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Southern Leyte, Misamis Oriental, South Cotabato, and Dinagat Island. Of these, 1,275 families (or 8,451 people) are being served inside 26 evacuation centers, it said. Citing figures from the Philippine Coast Guard, the NDRRMC said some 9,856 passengers were stranded in areas affected by "Ramon" as of 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Also stranded were 361 rolling cargoes, 240 trucks, 105 vessels, 35 cars, 39 motor bancas and 50 buses. Floods were reported in:
  • Masalay and Roxas towns, Mindoro Oriental
  • Balud town in Masbate, rendering Tawad-Balud road passable only to heavy trucks and equipment
  • parts of Pasig City, Pasay City, Makati City in Metro Manila as of Wednesday night Landslides were reported at:
  • Donsol-Banuang Gurang Road in Donsol, Sorsogon. - VVP, GMA News
