Android app alerts loved ones of arrest

Demonstrators and protesters with smartphones running Google's Android OS may find this app worth a try. The "I'm Getting Arrested" enables anyone to broadcast a custom message to SMS numbers in the event they are arrested, "with one click." "(It is) inspired by a real Occupy Wall Street incident," said a description of the app on the Android Market. The app, released October 8, runs on Android 1.6 and up, and is a free 31k download. A review on tech site CNET said the app has a bull's eye icon that can be long-pressed to send the SMS messages to the appropriate contacts. "From what we've seen, 'I'm Getting Arrested' is straightforward and works exactly as described," it said. But it also suggested that the app add Twitter and Facebook support, as "built-in social media would not only expand the app's reach to potentially large numbers of friends and loved ones, but it would also serve as a bullhorn for rallying support after every arrest." — RSJ, GMA News
