Cops eye review of slain PUP exec's phone logs

Police investigators are eyeing reviewing the mobile phone logs of a slain official of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines to find more leads into the motive of the crime. The Manila Police District (MPD) is also checking to see if the victim, PUP vice president for administration Augustus Cezar, received death threats before he was ambushed, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported Friday. Unidentified motorcycle-riding men gunned down Cezar in an ambush in Manila's Sta. Mesa district Wednesday night.

In wanting to see the logs of Cezar's phone, the MPD investigators said they may get leads by identifying who he last talked to or exchanged text messages with. Among the possible angles being considered as motives in the killing are "administrative differences" in the PUP, Cezar's work as a lawyer, and possible personal grudges. The MPD had formed a special investigation team, Task Group August, to look into the crime. Heading the task group is MPD deputy chief for operations Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas. Other members of the task group will include members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO), legal office, and Public Information Office. On Thursday, the PUP community condemned the murder of Cezar and urged authorities to make sure justice is served for him. — LBG, GMA News
