Junior to put Pacquiao to sleep, says Floyd Sr

The father of undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Manny Pacquiao would not last for 12 rounds if ever the highly-anticipated match between the reigning and former pound-for-pound title holder pushes through in the near future. In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Floyd Mayweather Sr., who still has a distant relationship with his son, said Junior would beat eight division world champion Pacquiao by knockout. A deal has yet to be reached regarding details of the expected million-dollar bout. Negotiations for the fight was called off twice because of various reasons. The Olympic-style drug testing has been the major issue in the negotiations. Floyd Jr. is taking a break after his sensational fourth-round knockout win over Victor Ortiz to snatch the World Boxing Council (WBC) world welterweight title last month. Pacquiao, meanwhile, is entering the final stages of his training for his scheduled title defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) world welterweight crown opposite Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez in November. Mayweather Sr. also continued to give hints that Pacquiao is into performance enhancing drugs even though there's already a pending defamation suit against the Mayweathers in the U.S. District Court. "The fight should have been done a long time ago. But like I said before, if Pacquiao takes the tests, my son is going to put him to sleep." Mayweather Sr. added that former superwelterweight champion Thomas "Hitman" Hearns was known to be a knockout puncher in the six divisions that he fought while Pacquiao was never recognized to be a big puncher. "And now he is knocking guys out who are six feet tall. How can that be? Something like this has never ever happened in the history of boxing." Although Mayweather Sr. believes Pacquiao has done something he is still confident that his son would win the fight. "But there is no doubt, Floyd would beat Pacquiao if he agrees to take the tests." — JVP, GMA News
