NDRRMC: 'Ramon' death toll rises to 10

The death toll from Tropical Depression Ramon (Banyan) rose to 10 Saturday, after a girl who went missing after being swept by a strong current while crossing a river in Iloilo last Monday was confirmed dead. In its 6 a.m. update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council identified the latest fatality as Lyka Elosendo, of Barotac Viejo in Iloilo. Elosendo died from drowning, the NDRRMC said. Still missing is Jaime Cagumbay, 36, of Sitio Elbos of Lonoy village in Jagna, Bohol. At least six were reported injured. The NDRRMC said Ramon affected at least 11,520 families or 56,285 people in 144 villages in 26 towns and eight cities in 11 provinces. Of these, 605 families or 2,980 people are being served inside 11 evacuation centers. At least 29 houses were destroyed while 28 were damaged. The NDRRMC also said two bridges and three road sections remained impassable in Southern Luzon. Ramon exited Philippine territory Friday afternoon, with state weather forecasters expecting the weather to improve this weekend. — LBG, GMA News
