Manila authorities warn of 'botcha' in processed meat

Some processed meat products might be made from "botcha." Authorities in Manila made this statement over the weekend after the seizure of 100 kilos of processed meat believed to be made from tainted meat. The 100 kilos of meat, which included longganisa, embutido, siomai and ham, had no labels on the packaging, radio dzBB reported Saturday. City veterinary teams that seized the questionable products at the city's Blumentritt Market noted the products had no label or address of the maker. The report said authorities expect more of these processed meat items in the weeks leading to Christmas, when demand for meat shoots up. Embutido, ham and longganisa are likely to be popular during the holidays, they added. In the meantime, the report said authorities advised consumers not to buy processed meat items without labels. — LBG, GMA News
