PAGASA: Rain, thunderstorms loom over extreme north Luzon

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms loom over Extreme Northern Luzon Sunday due to a wind convergence affecting the area, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. PAGASA also said the rest of the country may expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours. "Extreme Northern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. It added moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the northeast and southeast will prevail over Extreme Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough. Light to moderate winds coming from the southeast to south will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the east over Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate. The country is now enjoying a relatively cyclone-free weekend after being pounded by tropical cyclones "Pedring" (Nesat), "Quiel" (Nalgae) and "Ramon" (Banyan). However, PAGASA forecasters had indicated a new cyclone may possibly form or enter Philippine territory this coming Wednesday or Thursday. — LBG, GMA News
