MMDA: Motorcycle lanes trial run on Monday

It's all systems go for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's one-week dry run for its motorcycle lanes along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and Macapagal Avenue in southern Metro Manila. Chairman Francis Tolentino on Sunday said MMDA enforcers and seminar teams are ready to flag down erring motorcycle riders and give them a 15-minute on-the-spot seminar on motorcycle safety. "All set na po bukas. Kahapon nag-meeting ang Motorcycle Federation of the Philippines at susuporta sila sa paglulunsad bukas. Handa na ang (seminar teams) natin," Tolentino said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the lectures will last 15 minutes and will "remind" erring motorcycle riders on "basic motorcycle safety." After the dry run, offenders caught outside the motorcycle lanes face a fine of P500 for the first offense. The special lanes will cover the fourth lane of the 12.4-km Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and the rightmost lane of Macapagal Avenue in Pasay and Parañaque Cities. On the other hand, Tolentino said motorcycle riders will still have to observe the 60-kph speed limit. Drive vs smoking continues Meanwhile, MMDA general manager Corazon Jimenez said the MMDA's campaign against smoking in public places is still ongoing. She said the MMDA has even deployed additional personnel to public places to catch those smoking in public places. "Gusto ko lang ipagbigay-alam sa publiko na tuluy-tuloy ang paghuli ng MMDA. As of today 10,185 ang nahuli natin mula July 1," she said in a separate interview on dzBB. — LBG, GMA News
