Over 16,000 take Civil Service exam Sunday

Over 16,000 prospective government employees flocked to various venues nationwide on Sunday to take the Civil Service examination, a prerequisite for those who want to become civil servants. In Quezon City alone, over 1,000 took the exam at the Carlos Albert High School in Brixton Hills, according to a report on GMA News Tv’s “Balitanghali." The examinees in Quezon City went to the venue as early as 6 a.m. although examination started at 8 a.m., the report said. The Civil Service exam can be either professional or sub-professional, depending on whether or not the examinee is a college graduate. The professional exam lasted for three hours, while the sub-professional exam lasted for two and a half hours.

The exam, which covers verbal, analytical and numerical skills, as well as knowledge on the Philippine Constitution, is a prerequisite for becoming a government employee. Only those who pass the exam are eligible to apply for work at a government agency. Alma Foronda, director of the Civil Service Commission in National Capital Region, expressed the importance of the exam: “It would be during these times that civil servants who can really perform are needed in government." – Amanda Lago/KBK, GMA News
