Tension mars demolition in Mandaluyong

Tension marred the demolition of some 20 houses in a residential area in Mandaluyong City Monday as residents barricaded the site to "protect" their homes. Residents engaged some members of the demolition team in a pushing match to prevent them from entering the site, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported. No one was initially reported injured in the confrontation, even as the team managed to enter the site as of 9 a.m., the report said. The site is located near the corner of 9 de Pebrero Street and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City. The dzBB report quoted the residents as saying the demolition should not yet push through because they had asked a city court to issue a temporary restraining order against the demolition. It quoted the residents as saying the sheriff should at least wait for the court to decide on their petition. — RSJ, GMA News
