Adobe reader releases app for iPhone, iPad

While its Flash software is not too welcome on Apple Inc.’s devices, software maker Adobe has released a version of its Reader software for the iOS platform. The Adobe Reader for iOS will allow users to view, access, interact with, share and print PDF files on mobile Apple devices including the iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone. "Easily and efficiently access the widest range of PDF file types—including PDF Portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files. Now available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, Adobe Reader offers fast, high-quality interaction with PDF," read a description of the app on Apple’s App Store. With the app, Adobe said a user can quickly open PDF files from email, the Web or any application; and read text annotations such as Sticky Notes. They can also access encrypted PDF files, as well as search text to find specific information, use bookmarks, zoom in on text or images for a closer view, navigate through large files using thumbnails, and select and copy text from a PDF file to the clipboard. Reader for iOS can also let users print files wirelessly with AirPrint, and share PDF files with other applications or email PDF documents as attachments. Adobe said version 10.1.0 of the app is a 5.9-mb free download. It added the app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. A separate article on tech site Mashable said this is Adobe’s first official version of Reader for iOS devices, adding the app works with iOS 4.2.5 and later. On the other hand, Adobe released its Reader software for Google’s Android as early as May 2010. Apple is not too keen about Adobe’s other software, Flash.
