3 suspects in P8M DSWD heist in Tacloban fall — report

Three suspects, including a policeman, were taken into custody Tuesday over Monday’s robbery of some P8 million in Department of Social Welfare and Development funds in Tacloban City in Eastern Visayas. A report on dzBB radio said the two other suspects included the driver of the DSWD vehicle involved in Monday's heist, and a minor. Citing initial reports from the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Eastern Visayas, the dzBB report identified the policeman as PO3 Arnulfo Boco of the Ormoc police, and the DSWD vehicle driver as Justino Boco. A separate dzBB report quoted Tacloban police chief Senior Superintendent Wilson Caubat as saying they also recovered some P4 million from a relative of PO3 Boco. Both the policeman and the driver pointed to each other as the mastermind of the heist, the report said. In Monday's heist, armed men blocked the path of the DSWD vehicle along Maharlika Highway and took the P8 million in funds. The funds were supposedly to help residents of Northern Samar who were affected by the recent cyclone. — KBK, GMA News
