'Till Game Over do us part': A Super Mario-themed wedding

"For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until Game Over do us part." On this note, a couple exchanged wedding vows in a ceremony themed after the classic video game Super Mario Bros. in the United States last Oct. 8. "When (bried Esther Tanouye) told me she wanted to have a Super Mario Bros (the 8-bit original specifically) themed wedding, I got super excited and asked her if I could help out in any way. Luckily, I was able to contribute and it turned out to be a very fun experience," designer artist Larry Quach, who was behind the video game-themed arrangements, said in his blog. Quach, who posted photos of the game-themed invitations and wedding favors on his web log, fashioned wedding invitations out of gray fibrous card stock to resemble game cartridges. In the invitation, he replaced the "Nintendo" logo with "Tanouye," the bride's maiden name; and the seal with "Watkins," the groom's surname. Opening the invitation will yield three cards, including a postcard, a Flower Card/directions to the wedding, and a Wedding Registry card. "The first card (the mushroom) is the RSVP postcard that you're supposed to mail in. I was later told that some folks contacted the bride and RSVPed through phone or email so they could keep their invites intact. Haha," Quach said. Quach said they made some 80 invitations "over the course of an 18-hour day." Even wedding favors were themed after the game, with guests getting a box with Thank-you cards in Japanese, Korean, English and Mexican. "(These represented) the different ethnic groups represented by the the bride (1/2 Japanese, 1/2 Korean) and the groom (1/2 Caucasian 1/2 Mexican). Ideally I would have made all the type in 8 bit font, but we sorta ran out of time on this one," he said. "Their wedding ended up being one of the most beautiful and fun weddings I've ever attended. Sadly they are moving away from socal to New York. Congratulations to the both of them! Wish you guys the best!" Quach said. — TJD, GMA News
