MMDA motorcycle lanes turn blue, more visible

As it prepares for full enforcement next week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has renamed its motorcycle lanes to "blue lanes." For now, the MMDA is enforcing a motorcycle-lane rule on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and Macapagal Boulevard in southern Metro Manila. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they painted the lanes blue to make them more visible and easily identifiable. "Our men worked feverishly, round the clock to paint the lanes blue so that they could be easily identified," he said in a news release. Violators this week will not get traffic tickets but will be made to undergo an on-the-spot 15-minute traffic safety seminar. Starting October 24, violators face a P500 fine for every violation. — ELR, GMA News
