Palace: Kris Aquino will make a good UNHCR honorary patron

Malacañang believes TV host/actress Kris Aquino, younger sister of President Benigno Aquino III, will be a good honorary patron of the United Nation High Commission on Refugees’ (UNHCR). “Kami po sigurado na she will do her best to discharge the functions," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said at a press briefing on Wednesday, a day after Kris accepted UNHCR's offer for her to be its Goodwill Ambassador in Asia. As honorary patron, Kris is just a step away from being appointed as Goodwill Ambassador like Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. “Si Ms Kris Aquino naman po, when she puts her mind and her heart to something, we are confident that she can ably help them," Valte said. Other UNHCR honorary patrons are South Sudanese-British cager Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls; Khaled Hosseini, author of A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner; and Chinese actress Yao Chen. - Amita O.
