Cops secure CCTV footage of PUP exec's killing

Manila police are analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage for clues on the killing of Polytechnic University of the Philippines vice president for administration Augustus Cezar in Manila last Oct. 12. The CCTV footage was taken from a convenience store near the scene of the crime, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported. Investigators are trying to find leads on the perpetrators, along with their motive for killing Cezar in Manila's Sta. Mesa district. The Cezar murder is one of the cases that new Manila Police District chief Senior Superintendent Alex Gutierrez "inherited" when he took over the MPD Thursday from retiring MPD Chief Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla. Gutierrez – reportedly a protégé of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim – promised to sustain the programs and reforms of Rongavilla, the dzBB report said. Meanwhile, the dzBB report said Gutierrez will also inherit other unsolved problems left by Rongavilla, which include:

  • power and water bills of the MPD
  • unreturned firearms of the MPD Special Weapons and Tactics team in the 2010 Manila hostage crisis
  • the reported involvement of MPD police personnel in torture, extortion and other abuses.
