1 killed, 19 hurt in bus accident on EDSA


A bus driver was killed while at least 19 people were injured, after a bus they were riding hit a parked dump truck along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City before dawn Friday. Some of the passengers were in critical condition after sustaining injuries in the face, according to reports on radio dzBB. Killed in the accident was Arturo Albadejo, 27, driver of the Malanday Metrolink bus, which plied the Malanday-NAIA route. The injured passengers were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) and Quezon City General Hospital. Of those injured, four were in critical condition and are confined at the EAMC, including:

    - Basilio Silverio, 20, (face and knees, legs) - Jenny Arangote, 22, (face and feet) - Erwin carpio, 31, (face)
A fourth passenger, Romeo Castañeda, was not admitted by the Quezon City General Hospital due to his injuries, and was referred to Quirino Labor Hospital. A separate report on dwIZ said the incident occurred near the corner of the northbound lane of EDSA and Quezon Avenue, when the bus hit the rear of the parked dump truck. The dwIZ report added police are looking into claims by some passengers that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, as the bus was swerving before it hit the dump truck. — LBG, GMA News
