Nagging question on Gaddafi's name spelling lingers after his death

As the world followed developments in Libya following the capture and death of former Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, many are also "concerned" about one other thing - the spelling of his name. Even President Benigno Aquino III's spokesman Edwin Lacierda bade the late strongman "RIP (rest in peace)" but spelled out his name in several ways. "(RIP) to gaddafi qaddafi khadafy khaddafi kadhafi etc," he said in his entry.

The Citizen Media Blog Watch, which monitored reactions to Gaddafi's capture and death, noted a Twitter trending stemming from the clamor for the correct spelling. “Khaddafi/Gaddafi? I don’t want to disrespect my Muslim brothers by using wrong spelling. Someone verify the correct way plz," it quoted one tweet as saying. It said another tweet asked to see the death certificate just to settle the spelling. On the other hand, the site also noted several netizens took no pleasure in celebrating someone's death. "While others celebrated, a tweet said, 'I’ll never celebrate someone’s death, US & Europe have done so so many deals with Gaddafi,'" it said. The Citizen Media Blog Watch had taken Lacierda to task last month for his earlier Twitter posts, where he needled leftist groups over their transport strike protesting high oil prices. His tweets at the time prompted the blog watch to comment that "this government is getting more arrogant by the day. Not to mention that it is turning to Twitterverse to vent its cheap shots." — LBG, GMA News
