Man in US creates 130 Facebook accounts to harass ex-girlfriend

A 22-year-old man from Los Angeles in the United States could be the first to be convicted for harassing his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend by creating fake online accounts, including 130 Facebook accounts. Jesus Felix, 22, was convicted under California's new Internet impersonation law, according to a report on the Mercury News. The investigation showed that Felix created 130 Facebook pages and numerous Craigslist listings with sexually explicit photographs of his former girlfriend. The victim's mother discovered several online profiles containing her daughter's contact information. The report said Felix entered a plea of no contest to two misdemeanor counts of violating the impersonation law and one count of making harassing phone calls. The court sentenced him to five years' probation, 30 days' road work and a year in jail unless he completes counseling, anger management and sex therapy classes. The report said Felix was also ordered to stay away from the victim and have no Internet access during his probation. Felix had been charged by the city attorney's Cyber Crime and Child Abuse Prevention Unit with using the fake accounts to harass his ex-girlfriend several times. The Internet impersonation statute became law on January 1 this year. - VVP, GMA News
