Oman market emerging for PHL fruits

A market for Philippine fruits is emerging in Oman with a steady increase for oriental fruits like bananas, pineapples and mangoes. Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) Chairman Khalil Bin Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Khonji relayed this to Philippine Ambassador-designate Joselito Jimeno. "(During their meeting), Al Khonji specifically mentioned the steady increase in the demand for oriental fruits like Philippine banana, pineapple, and mangoes, which he said are gaining strong foothold in the Oman mainstream market," the Department of Foreign Affairs said. He said this is where potential Omani investors may explore establishing joint venture projects with Filipino counterparts to ensure sufficient supply of such products in the local market. Both officials agreed to actively conduct follow-through actions with their speaking commitments, the DFA added. During their meeting, both officials also discussed various subjects focusing on activities that will boost economic, trade, and commercial cooperation. They also agreed to continue encouraging the private sectors to explore commercial and investment opportunities in both countries. Al Khonji suggested accelerating business exchanges to spur tourism, which in turn will lead to more trade exchanges. He assured JImeno his group is considering visiting the Philippines for the possible signing of the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the PCCI and the OCCI. For his part, Jimeno also suggested bringing in select Philippine business experts to Oman to conduct Business Forum on “Doing Business in the Philippines" under the auspices of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. — LBG, GMA News
