YouTube adds 'WeVideo' cloud-based editing, more new features

Uploading and sharing videos on YouTube is now easier and more fun, after the Google-owned video-sharing site rolled out a cloud-based editing feature. YouTube product marketing manager Nathalie Arbel said this was one of at least five new features recently added to the popular site. "To give you even more options to edit and touch up your videos, we’ve added the cloud-based video editing platform WeVideo as a partner to YouTube.com/Create," she said in a blog post. WeVideo allows a user to edit movies in the browser, with media files from any device. It can combine clips with music, effects, titles, transitions, and animation, and can share movies on Social Media with one click. Other new features on YouTube included:

  • Updated Video End-Screen: a redesigned end-screen that appears directly after a video finishes playing to make it even easier to find the next great video to watch.
  • Enhanced Playlist Bar: an updated interface for video playlists, making the individual video details more visible from within the playlist and making the next, previous, auto-play and shuffle buttons more distinct.
  • Updated YouTube.com/Charts page: keeps track of the latest and greatest videos on YouTube or which videos have had true staying power. It lists the most-liked videos for the day, the week, the month, and all-time.
  • Smart Subscribe button: lets a visitor know if he or she is already subscribed to the channel of the video he or she is watching.
Arbel said these features are aside from YouTube being localized in more countries and languages, including Kenya, the Philippines and Singapore. This brings the number of countries where YouTube is localized to 35. "You can check out what’s popular in these countries by changing your location setting, which you can find by scrolling to the bottom of YouTube.com and clicking on Location," she said. She also said YouTube has added support for Estonian, Icelandic, Basque, Galician, or Udu, bringing the number of supported languages to 51. — LBG, GMA News
