New spam promotes fake Steve Jobs 'charity fund'

Not content with announcing Steve Jobs is still alive and doing surveys disguised as a free iPad offer, cybercriminals are, again, exploiting the death of Apple Inc. co-founder and former CEO. This time, they claim to have set up a charity fund for "young and gifted" programmers, computer security firm Trend Micro said. "Written in plain text, the said message aims to persuade recipients to donate funds to the account indicated in the mail. However, we discovered that it turns out to be an account for an online casino payment site," Trend Micro said in a blog post. It claimed to support individuals who "dare to be different and work hard to change our living quality for (the) better." As in the past, spelling errors marred the message, including the subject line "Raise money for Steve Jobs Charity Fond!" Trend Micro advised users to be wary of such messages and avoid disclosing important information to unknown websites. Jobs died October 5 (US time). His death led to an outpouring of grief and sympathy worldwide. Jobs was credited for popular Apple products including the Apple II, Macintosh computer, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. — LBG, GMA News
