Palace congratulates Donaire on win vs Narvaez

Malacañang on Sunday congratulated World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Bantamweight champ Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. for his win over Argentine champion Omar Narvaez. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the country is proud to have a Filipino boxer who retained his two belts. "Congratulations, we're all very proud of you... We're very, very proud of the win of Mr. Donaire. Nakikita natin (we can see) it's not only Rep. Manny Pacquiao who makes us proud when it comes to the boxing arena," she said on government-run dzRB radio. On the other hand, she said Filipinos are solidly behind boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, who will face Juan Manuel Marquez on Nov. 12. Valte said Filipinos continue to take pride in Pacquiao. "We are all solidly behind the Pac-Man. Pride natin mga boksingero (he is the pride of our boxers), we know Congressman Pacquiao will again do us proud," she said. Donaire earlier defended his WBC and WBO belts after prevailing over Narvaez at Madison Square Garden. Online accounts of the fight said the judges scored the fight 120-108 for Donaire. Earlier, Donaire vowed to give the erstwhile undefeated Narvaez his first defeat. — LBG, GMA News
