DepEd warns its personnel vs. unauthorized schools

While it encourages its non-teaching personnel to pursue higher education, the Department of Education (DepEd) reminded its employees to take masteral and doctoral degrees only in schools recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). DepEd Order No. 78 directs DepEd officials and personnel to refrain from enrolling in non-accredited and unauthorized colleges and universities. “If we want to institute lasting reforms in our education system, we must fully cooperate with CHED by not patronizing HEIs (higher education institutions) which do not meet the standards set by the Commission," said DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro. The DepEd supervises classes from the preschool to the high school levels while the CHED supervises classes in the college level. Luistro nstructed DepEd officials and personnel not to allow illegally operated HEIs to use public school facilities as venues for holding unauthorized classes and other activities. The DepEd encourages teaching and non-teaching personnel to pursue higher education as a requirement for their promotion and upward mobility. “We want an improving career path for our DepEd personnel but they must earn the requisite credentials the right way and in duly-accredited HEIs," Luistro said. - VVP, GMA News
