Three nuns sent to Japan to serve Pinoy migrants

Three nuns from the Oblates of Notre Dame (OND) were sent to Japan to serve Filipinos in the diocese of Naha, Okinawa, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said. The CBCP said a sendoff ceremony was held for sisters Stella Marie Llerin, Teresita Caytor, and Rochelle Caminse at the Our Lady of Hope Chapel in the OND Novitiate Grounds in Tamontaka in Maguindanao. An article on the CBCP news site said Llerin and OND Superior General Sr. Rose Susan Montejo had visited the Naha diocese in Japan last year. They were invited by Naha bishop Bernard Oshikawa, who wanted a new ministry to be opened in his territory. Llerin said there was a great pastoral need to assist the Filipino migrants in Japan. "We (want to) be for the people of the Diocese of Naha and for the Filipinos there an experience of a God who comes into the lives of all people and into the world in new ways," Llerin said. According to the report, Father Alfie Africa, the current Moderator of the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP), recommended the OND sisters to the bishop. The MSP has been working closely with the ONDs in Papua New Guinea. - VVP, GMA News
