DFA checking if Pinoys among casualties in Turkey quake

Philippine officials in Turkey are continuously checking if Filipinos are among the casualties in a magnitude-7.2 quake that hit Turkey on Monday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said they have so far not received any report of Filipinos being among those killed or injured, radio dzXL reported. Hernandez said there are about 1,000 documented Filipinos now based in Turkey. Earlier reports indicated some 200 were killed and hundreds more feared dead after the quake hit parts of southeast Turkey on Sunday. One of the hardest hit areas was the town of Ercis. Survivors and emergency service workers searched through broken concrete, using hands, shovels and torches or working under floodlights powered by mobile generators. - VVP, GMA News
