LG Australia website hacked

Hackers broke into the Australian website of consumer electronics firm LG during the weekend, defacing the homepage with a message questioning the site's security. The Sydney Morning Herald reported a hacker team called "Intra" defaced the website lge.com.au, forcing it to go down Saturday. "It seems as though your website has been hacked. How did we get past your security? ....... What security? ;)," read a message on the site. LG said it was alerted to the hack on Friday morning and suspended the site "until the incident is fully investigated." It said the attack affected lge.com.au and not lg.com.au. Chris Gatford, a private security consultant with Hack Labs, said it was hard to say if the vandals accessed other sensitive information such as passwords. Gatford said that while it is embarrassing to have a website defacement, there is a bigger risk of the attacker gaining sensitive data. But Ty Miller, CTO of security firm Pure Hacking, said the attacker may have compromised the web server hosting LG's site - which may be more serious than the more common SQL Injection. A separate article from computer security firm Sophos said the attackers replaced the site with some lightly-obfuscated JavaScript. But it noted the site had been restored as of Monday, redirecting to www.lg.com/au. — TJD, GMA News
