PAGASA: No more cyclones for October, but 2-3 more before yearend

While no cyclone is likely to enter or form inside Philippine territory in the last week of October, at least two to three more cyclones are expected before the end of the year, state weather forecasters said Tuesday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said there is little chance of a second cyclone forming in October after it initially forecast two to three cyclones for this month. "Sa November at December, medyo meron pa tayo, dalawa hanggang tatlo ang inaasahan kung ang climatological data natin ang ating susundin," PAGASA forecaster Sonny Pajarilla said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said there is little chance of a cyclone forming this week. Only one cyclone, “Ramon" (Banyan), had entered Philippine territory in October. "Patapos na ang October so 'di inaasahan may bagyong mamumuo bago pumasok ang November," Pajarilla said. Last weekend, PAGASA started tracking a low-pressure area that could potentially become a cyclone, but the LPA had weakened into a shallow LPA as of Tuesday morning. On the other hand, PAGASA's names for cyclones for the rest of 2011 are:

  • Sendong
  • Tisoy
  • Ursula
  • Viring
  • Weng
  • Yoyoy
  • Zigzag "Hindi pa tapos ang taon meron pa tayong inaasahang bagyo bago matapos ang 2011," Pajarilla said. - KBK, GMA News
