200 kilos tainted meat seized in Manila

At least 200 kilos of suspected "botcha" (tainted) pork was seized in a market in Manila's Paco district before dawn Wednesday. The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) said it had received a tip that the meat was to be dropped off at the Paco Market, radio dwIZ reported. Seized was a sack containing the meat, which was abandoned at a corner of the market. However, the team failed to make any arrests as no one was near the sack of meat at the time it was found. Dr. Rolando Marquez of the NMIS said they expect more attempts to bring in tainted meat to markets as Christmas season is just around the corner. The report quoted him as saying demand for meat is expected to rise as the holidays draw closer. — LBG, GMA News
