4 suspected NPAs killed in Cagayan clash - Army

Four suspected communist rebels were killed following an early morning clash with government security forces in the northern Philippine province of Cagayan, the commanding general of the Philippine Army said. About 5:30 a.m., an Army reconnaissance platoon engaged 10 suspected New People's Army insurgents at Sitio Barang, Barangay San Miguel in Baggao town, resulting in the enemy fatalities, said Lt. Gen. Arturo Ortiz. Aside from the bodies of the slain rebels, the soldiers also recovered two M16 rifles and a shotgun after a 10-minute firefight. There were no reported government casualties, Ortiz said. An unnamed civilian hit by stray bullets was brought to a local hospital for further treatment after being administered initial treatment by the soldiers. As of this posting, additional troops and K9 units have been deployed to go after the other rebels. — RSJ, GMA News
