Floods force PHL Embassy in Thailand to suspend consular ops


The flooding problem in Thailand has forced the Philippine Embassy there to suspend its consular services on Friday, October 28. However, the embassy said it can still be reached through its hotlines which will be open 24 hours. "In view of developments since last night, the Embassy regrets to inform the public that it will suspend consular operations tomorrow, 28 October 2011," the embassy said in an announcement on its website. Filipinos needing emergency consular services can call the Embassy hotlines 08-9926-5954 and 08-4360-8405. The Embassy added it will also continue providing assistance to Filipinos who may be affected by the flood. Airlines offer discounts Meanwhile, the embassy said flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) and air carrier Cebu Pacific are offering special discounted fares for Filipinos affected by the floods who would wish to go home until the situation improves. PAL is offering THB4,600 (surcharges and taxes) for flights from Bangkok to Manila; and THB8,380 for a round trip from Bangkok to Manila and back (applicable taxes and fees in Manila will apply). The other conditions include:

  • baggage allowance of 20 kilos;
  • available rates are applicable for confirmed bookings only
  • rates are up to November 30 Interested Filipinos may call the PAL Office (look for Theresa Garces, District Sales Manager) at Rama IV at +662-6335713, +662-6335714 or +662-6335541 or through the PAL counter booth at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport at +662-1346835 or +662-1346836. On the other hand, Cebu Pacific is offering THB4,500 for a Bangkok-Manila flight (inclusive of surcharges and taxes), and THB8,500 for a Bangkok-Manila-Bangkok round trip (applicable taxes and fees in Manila will apply). The other conditions include:
  • baggage allowance of 15 kilos;
  • rates are up to November 15;
  • rates available to a maximum of 30 guests per flight, and
