Fire destroys 50 houses in Quezon City


At least 50 houses were destroyed in a fire that razed a residential area in Quezon City shortly before midnight Thursday. While no one was initially reported injured in the fire, some P5 million in property was destroyed, radio dzBB reported early Friday.
The report said the fire started around 11 p.m. along Boni Serrano Avenue in Libis village, and reached Task Force Alpha before it was placed under control past midnight. An initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of one Dominador Oderos. Arson investigators are verifying information the fire stemmed from a gas lamp left unattended. Meanwhile, another fire razed a house at Barangay 74 in Caloocan City. No one was hurt in the fire, which started at 1 a.m. and reached the third alarm before it was placed under control. The incidents prompted the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Metro Manila to remind the public to check their houses' electrical connections especially during the Undas (All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days) break. The BFP also said residents can call the BFP hotline at 117 for assistance. — LBG, GMA News
