Traffic building up on SLEX; NLEX ready for Undas exodus

Traffic started building up at the South Luzon Expressway Friday noon as motorists headed to the provinces to spend "Undas" (All Saints' and All Souls' Day) to pay respects to their dearly departed. South Luzon Tollways Corp. (SLTC) spokesman Christian Orlina said that as of noon, there was a moderate buildup of traffic at the Calamba (Laguna) exit. "Nagsisimula na magdatingan ang motorista sa long weekend," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the SLTC has set up toll plazas in anticipation of a "huge volume of vehicles" starting Friday afternoon, adding ambulant tellers have been deployed to assist motorist should SLEX traffic turn heavy. At the North Luzon Expressway, on the other hand, the Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) vice president for corporate communications Marlene Ochoa said they are ready for the peak of the exodus as well. "Nagdagdag kami ng ambulant tellers, pag mahaba na ang pila lalapitan na nila [ang mga motorista]," she said in a separate interview on dzBB. She also said the NLEX has closed-circuit television systems to detect problems. Moreover, she said the MNTC has automatic vehicle locator system for quick response from traffic patrol teams during road emergencies. — LBG, GMA News
