PNoy, sisters to visit parents' tombs on Oct 31

President Benigno Aquino III and his sisters are expected to visit the tombs of their parents at the Manila Memorial Park on October 31, a day before majority of Filipinos start crowding the cemeteries to pay their respects to their dearly departed. At a press briefing, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the Aquinos “would like to honor the memory of their parents peacefully and quietly" in observance of the traditional All Saints' and All Souls' Days (November 1 and 2 respectively). “They felt that October 31 will be the more appropriate time to visit their parents," he added. The President’s father, former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr was assassinated on August 21, 1983 at the then Manila International Airport, upon his return to the country from self-exile in the United States. The airport was later named after the former senator. Former President Corazon Aquino, on the other hand, succumbed to cancer on August 1, 2009. — LBG, GMA News
