DFA: 2011 intl bazaar set at PICC Nov. 20


The yearly "International Bazaar," where diplomatic and consular posts in the Philippines sell unique merchandise, will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on November 20. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the PICC's Forums I, II and III are reserved for the bazaar, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of November. "Now on its 45th year, the 2011 International Bazaar goes Green again and will only be using reusable and eco-friendly shopping bags instead of plastic ones as part of their commitment to environmentally-conscious and responsible shopping," the DFA said. The DFA said the bazaar is a shoppers' paradise "where the diplomatic and consular posts in the Philippines, as well as local entrepreneurs, sell choice and unique merchandise." Special prizes will also be raffled off during the bazaar:

  • cruise and travel packages
  • motorcycle
  • appliances
  • hotel and restaurant vouchers
  • many one-of-a-kind items in line with this year's theme "Shop Global, Help Local!" Tickets are available for P100 on the same day or at the IBF office at the 6th floor of the DFA main building in Pasay City and Tesoro's outlets in Arnaiz Avenue in Makati City, the Alabang Town Center and at Amalum Street in Ermita. The proceeds of the bazaar will be used to finance projects of the International Bazaar Foundation. Among the charities of the foundation are:
  • Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-Angat at Pag-Asa (AGAPP)
  • Bahay Maria Center
  • Community and Family Services International, Inc. (CFSI)
  • Coallition of Services of the Elderly, Inc.
  • Philippine General Hospital
  • Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran ng mga Ayta, Inc. (KAKAI)
  • Dar Amanah Children's Village Foundation, Inc. Sponsoring the event is the International Bazaar Foundation headed by Gretchen del Rosario, wife of DFA secretary Albert del Rosario, in cooperation with the Spouses of the Heads of Missions (SHOM) and members of the Consular Corps in the Philippines. The International Bazaar was originally a special project of the Ladies of the DFA, the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, other government agencies and the private sector. However, it has since become an annual undertaking of the Ladies of the DFA in cooperation with the Diplomatic and Consular Corps. - VVP, GMA News
