After her dad dies, Charice tweets about family squabbles

(UPDATED 12:30 p.m.) - The internal family squabbles of international singing sensation Charice Pempengco's family exploded on Twitter Tuesday in the wake of her father's violent death on Monday. A day after her estranged father Ricky Pempengco was stabbed dead in Laguna, Charice turned to Twitter to express her feelings toward her father's family.

Charice revealed that she was upset by some relatives' negative reactions. Her aunt earlier told reporters that Charice and her mom might be happy now that Ricky was dead. "Kayong mag-ina, masaya na kayong dalawa dahli ayan na yung pinagtabuyan mong daddy mo. Sumikat ka lang, hindi mo na inano yung daddy mo, hindi mo alam yung nangyari sa buhay niya. Pamangkin ko siya diba, gusto ko siya sumikat pero sobrang sama ng loob namin sa kanila," said Pempengco's sister Russell Mejia in a report on Balitanghali on Tuesday.
Charice told her father's siblings that they had no right to say what she is feeling about her father's death. "Sino kayo para sabihing masaya ako sa pagkawala ng SARILI KONG AMA? Kapatid lang kayo at ako ay ANAK," said Charice. She claimed that she had wanted to visit her father while he was alive but his siblings had not allowed her and even told her not to use his surname. "Hindi pinagbawal ni mommy na dalawin ang daddy namin pero HINDI NYO KAMI PINAYAGAN. Wala kayong respeto sa PAMILYA NYA para sabihin nyo yan ngayon! Imbis na ayusin nyo, sinisira nyo pa!" said Charice.

Saying she needs to be with her family in the Philippines, Charice also apologized to her fans as she could no longer perform at the David Foster and Friends concert in Singapore. "I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year," Charice said. Charice's choice of medium It's not uncommon for a death to reopen emotional wounds in divided families. However, rarely has a grieving celebrity of Charice's magnitude used Twitter, said to be the "loudspeaker of the Internet," to address estranged relatives. Her choice of medium may not have come as a total surprise to the multitude of fans who follow Charice on Twitter and latch on to her every tweeted act and feeling. "Was so shocked of @officialcharice 's auntie's reaction over her dad's death!" said ellimaCamille on Twitter. ItsMissPatch tweeted: "omg i love charice even more!!! taray ng twitter statement niya!!!" "Chasters, let's support @OfficialCharice at this time. Cha, praying for comfort for you&ur family. Hug..." said bigbadbawang on Twitter.

To tweet her anger and grief was probably a natural reflex for Charice, a creation of the digital age as any celebrity, having been discovered on YouTube before parlaying that fame into global stardom. She has guested on Oprah who praised her "big voice," and went on to appear onstage with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, and on the hit US television series Glee where she played new Filipina student Sunshine corazon. Charice's father died on the spot on Monday due to multiple stab wounds. The police are now tracking down the suspect, a certain Angel Capili, who may have held a grudge as a motive for the killing. An initial investigation showed the incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. Monday, when Ricky was buying something from a store along A. Bonifacio Street in Langgam Village in San Pedro town. As Pempengco was making a purchase, Capili approached him and stabbed him at least twice in the chest. Charice said she hasn't seen her father since she was three years old and they left him after a violent incident. "I'm very hurt because I was three years old and I can't help my mom that time," she began. He [Charice's father] came back, he was like so wild, he's shouting and he started to choke my mom. And my dad get his shotgun, and he was about to shoot my mom and I can't do anything," Charice said in a report on Pep.ph.
Someone who looks like her father Also on her Twitter account, Charice shared that the night her father was murdered, she had met someone who looked like him. "Di ko alam na nagpaparamdam na pala sya," she said. Despite being estranged from her father, Charice says she had a great relationship with him. "Gusto ko lang malaman nyo, na we had a really great relationship bago nangyari lahat ng gulo. Sinabi niya sa akin nung ako'y bata pa na hindi actually alam ni mommy, gusto nya akong maging sundalo kasi sabi niya matapang daw ako. I loved him and I will still love him. He's still my Dad after all," said Charice. - with Gayna Kumar, VVP/HS, GMA News
