Search for Miss Maui Filipina begins

The Maui Filipino Community Council is seeking contestants for next year's "53rd Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant," a report of The Maui News said. The contest is open to single women, 18 to 27 years old, and are of full or part Filipino ancestry, Maui News said. High school seniors may apply as long as they are already 18 years old by December 31, 2012. The deadline for entering the pageant is on March 14, 2012. The winner of the pageant will receive:

a scholarship,

round-trip airfare to the Philippines, and

a travel allowance. The winner will also compete in the Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant in July 2012. Maui News said the reigning Miss Maui Filipina is Shelby Bantilan.
