Weather: Floods, landslides loom over Bicol, East Visayas

Flash floods and landslides loom over parts of Bicol and Eastern Visayas due to a wind convergence, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Tuesday. In a 10 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the wind convergence is mainly affecting the Southern Luzon and Visayas areas. "(A) wind convergence affecting Southern Luzon and Visayas... will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorm becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. Earlier Tuesday, PAGASA forecaster Sonny Pajarilla said a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) continues to affect parts of Bicol, and parts of Visayas and Mindanao. He said that while the SLPA is now east of Mindanao, it will bring the cloudiness inland. Pajarilla also said thunderstorms on Tuesday may last for as long as two hours. "Pag naibuhos yan sandali lang yan, 30 minutes to one hour and 30 minutes. At most ang pinakamatagal dalawang oras (Once the thunderstorm starts, it will last for 30 minutes up to two hours)," he said. "Ang payo natin sa kababayan natin magdala ng payong (Our advice to the public is to bring umbrellas when going out today)," he added. — RSJ, GMA News
