DepEd reminder: Classes resume Thursday

Elementary and high schools are to resume classes on November 3, Thursday, the Department of Education reiterated Tuesday. The DepEd particularly reminded public schools to stick to the official calendar, while private schools should comply with the 180-teaching-day schedule. "It is compulsory for all public elementary and secondary schools to follow the official calendar. Private schools may opt to deviate from the calendar, however, they are required to comply with the 180 teaching-learning days," it said in an advisory posted on the Philippine Information Agency website. For School Year 2011-2012, the DepEd said the semestral break for students and teachers is from October 26 to November 2. By Thursday, it said regular classes in all public elementary and secondary schools will resume. "The calendar, duly signed by Education Secretary Armin Luistro, is stipulated in DepEd Order no. 28 series of 2011 released last March 22, 2011," it said. Under DepEd Order 28 dated last March 22, the calendar of activities indicated that the resumption of classes is on Nov. 3. The DepEd supervises classes in the preschool, elementary and high school levels. Many Filipinos are expected to return from the provinces this week after spending All Saints' and All Souls' Days in the provinces to pay respects to their dearly departed. — RSJ, GMA News
