Cops remain on alert for return of Metro Manilans from provinces

(Updated 3:07 p.m.) Even after Undas (All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day), cops in the National Capital Region (NCR) will remain on full alert for the return of Metro Manilans from the provinces. Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said police personnel will keep watch over thoroughfares and bus terminals starting on Tuesday afternoon. "Imo-monitor natin ang [mga] kababayan nating pauwi," Purisima said in an interview on dzBB radio. For his part, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. reiterated that Filipinos' commemoration of the Undas "was generally peaceful." "A total of 45 thousand PNP personnel were deployed in cemeteries while thousands more were conducting checkpoints, foot and mobile patrols and manning motorist assistance points or marshals," Cruz said. Meanwhile, bus operators and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also braced for the return of Filipinos from the provinces. A separate dzBB report said the bus operators and the MMDA expect Epifanio delos Santos Avenue to be crowded as early as Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, Purisima noted that no major incident disrupted this year's commemoration of Undas. "Overall ang situation, quiet and peaceful ang Metro Manila," he said. - VVP/RSJ, GMA News
