PAGASA: Wind systems threaten NLuzon, Mindanao

A wind convergence and a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) may bring flash floods and landslides to parts of North Luzon and Eastern Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Wednesday. In a post on its Twitter account, PAGASA said the SLPA was estimated at 200 km east-northeast of Davao City, embedded in the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao. On the other hand, it said a wind convergence is affecting Luzon. "These systems will bring scattered rains over the archipelago becoming widespread over extreme northern Luzon and eastern Mindanao which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. PAGASA did not say if the SLPA may become a cyclone, but its forecasters earlier said the SLPA has little chance of becoming one. If the SLPA becomes a cyclone while in Philippine territory, it will be codenamed "Sendong." — LBG, GMA News
