Charice shows ‘bravery’ in video before dad’s murder

Faced with adversity, Charice Pempengco brings with her the bravery of a soldier, according to the lyrics of her latest music video launched barely two weeks before her father was killed in Laguna. The music video, titled "Louder," talks about "independence and strength in overcoming obstacles," said a review on Spot.PH. The video was launched on October 19 and has over 500,000 views as of this posting.

Part of the lyrics goes, "I’m staring out my window / And the rain is pouring down / When you left I was so low / But I’m not gonna drown." "I don’t need no shoulder / I’m gonna be a soldier," continues the song, in what Charice earlier described as a message to haters. Soldier, too, for her dad "I can totally dedicate that to all the haters out there. You know, like, I don’t need you. I don’t need no shoulder, you know? I’m gonna be a soldier. No one can bring me down. I’m just gonna do this and be brave," she said in an interview with the website Teen.com in May. In a tweet after her father’s murder, Charice revealed that her dad, Ricky Pempengco, also recognized her bravery when she was a kid. "Sinabi niya sa akin nung ako'y bata pa na hindi actually alam ni mommy, gusto nya akong maging sundalo kasi sabi niya matapang daw ako. I loved him and I will still love him. He's still my Dad after all," she said. Charice, who arrived in the Philippines late Tuesday, is now seeking justice for her father. The suspect, identified as Angel Capili Jr., 35, remains at large. — with Paterno Esmaquel II/RSJ, GMA News
